Kambe events were responsible for the delivery, event management and logistics for Bristol’s St. Paul’s carnival between 2007-2009. this is highly complex and demanding event in the public streets of bristol with over 80,000 people in attendance.

The Brief

Kambe events were brought in to provide full production management to this complex city
event. We were tasked to work with the carnival committee, bristol city council and the police to provide full infrastructure, public safety management and event content.

The Process

The contract involved all planning and licensing, managing relationships with diverse stakeholders
from community groups to the civil contingencies Unit, close multi-agency partnerships, managing all infrastructure contractors during a very tight build and break period, and dynamic crowd management. Kambe events was able to provide a highly experienced and robust team in diverse and challenging roles. the planning documents have been commended by the police and industry experts in subsequent reviews.

The Result

Kambe events produced a hugely successful event from the client and audience perspectives. there was a chance, before Kambe got involved, that the annual carnival would not be allowed to continue because of concerns regarding the overall safety of the event. Kambe events proved that the production could be managed in a way that exceeded the expectations of the council and police. the crowd management Plan which Kambe developed for St. Paul’s carnival, in partnership with the operation Planning team at avon and Somerset Police, was highly commended in a review by leading expert ron Woodham (emergency Planning college) the review was commissioned by bristol civil contingencies Unit in recognition of the complex nature of the event.
