Back in 2020, when Covid-19 put paid to our usual event and festival activities, our team were at quite the loose end. Luckily, we found an amazing way to keep them very busy, whilst doing something incredibly important for the most critically vulnerable in the South West.
FoodStock 2020 was a campaign to build a stockpile of emergency food and the infrastructure to deliver it over a difficult winter. Turns out, festival management skills are infinitely transferrable to an operation like this. The Kambe Events team supported FareShare South West, to build this stockpile of food and deliver an action plan, to deliver it to those most in need.
This food helped bridge the food gap caused by the pandemic, acting as the emergency, low-cost food supplier to hundreds of frontline organisations- from food banks to schools to homeless charities.
The target was to deliver 1million meals to those in need, over the course of one winter.
Our team were on the ground, getting stuck in, working with FareShare to manage:
- Warehouse operations
- Recruit and management of warehouse volunteers and delivery drivers
- Assisting with press and marketing the campaign
- Managing goods in, storage, despatch and health and safety.
The original target of 1million meals was nearly tripled – with our team helping get over 3.4million meals to the vulnerable in the South West!
“Kambe helped us to envision what might be possible for the future of FoodStock. The ease with which we weathered multiple potentially showstopping issues was testament to the diligent mentality of the team and we were able to more than triple the original goal of the project and distribute food for over 3 million meals with their help.”
